Two Kindergarten students show off their creativity by building this structure with magnetic tiles.

We honored two Distinguished Alumni, Rita Schulte and Fred Tiernan, for their lifetime success and service.


Catholic Schools' Week 2012 ("Faith. Academic. Service.") was a celebrated in a special way with various dress-up days, celebrating Mass, working on a service project, working with a local artist, and sharing tininkling and line-dancing talents with our parents after a special family meal.







Ronald McDonald visited Assumption School to talk to the students about "Being a Star."  He is shown here choosing a special star from the crowd.



The Assumption Girls Basketball team competed against other Diocesan schools in the Catholic Basketball League.



The Animal Rescue League stopped by the Kindergarten class to share information about their cause.  The students talked about ways they could, as a young student, could help them.

Father Remi stopped to enjoy music class with the Pre-School students.

The teachers sponsored a Drop and Shop night for all the Assumption School families.  Fun was had by all as they played Wii, did crafts, watched movies, played games, etc.

The third and fourth graders took part of a day to help out Amanda the Panda wrap gifts to give away at Christmas time.

The Middle School Mock Trial team experienced another year of great success.  This year they finished 10th in the State with three students getting individual honors.

The 5-6th grade students have been investigating the behavior of gases.  This experiment was done to help us see what happens to the volume of a gas (air in the syringe) as a pressure is exerted on it (books placed on the plunger). 

The PK students visited the Granger Fire Station and got to see the work of a fireman up close!

Congratulations to our Middle School Girls' Volleyball team for their 3rd place finish in the Parochial League Volleyball tournament at the end of the season.  

Denise Forney visited the PK - 1 grade students to sing many upbeat songs.

The first and second graders visited the Granger Nursing and Rehab Center in October to decorate pumpkins.


The 7th & 8th grade science science classes recently dissected a lamb's heart in order to compare it to a human heart.

The Granger Fire and EMS came to Assumption School to share their jobs and how they help keep people safe.

The 6th graders performed "Penelope" for the 3-5 graders after studying Greek myths.

The first and second graders are studying simple machines.  They are shown here testing a few of them out.
As a part of Governor Terry Brandstad's "Start Somewhere" walk to improve our health, our students walked two laps around our school.


The first graders created their own apple dip as a class and had to test it out!
 
BRAG 2011 was a wonderful event that raised over $28,000 for our school.  Thanks to all who helped make it a great day!

The first and second grade is learning about sound.  They are shown here doing an experiment testing out the pitch of the container with different amounts of water in them.

The kindergarten students created solar ovens and used them to make smores.

The students participated in an assembly where they learned about bicycle safety and healthy exercise from the Iowa State Patrol and Farrell's.

The teachers have been utilizing the Wednesday Professional Development Time to study CRISS (CReating Independence through Student-ownded Strategies).  This is an example of a strategy that a teacher has used in their classroom to help the students organize their learning.

The Pre-School students have been enjoying a number of activities: meeting "Mat Man", a field trip to the Granger Library, and singing and dancing in music to name a few.


Assumption students enjoyed participating in numerous events at the Catholic Charities' Night at the I-Cubs, including singing the National Anthem.






Assumption School "Where Faith and Knowledge Meet" was a part of the Granger Daze Parade this summer.
